ELECTRONICS/ DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES
The historical birthplace of microelectronics in France, Grenoble Alpes also has extensive aptitudes in digital technologies (computer science, artificial intelligence, connected objects, etc…)
This sector’s workforce is 41,500 people strong. Composed of innovative startups and multinational corporations, the sector depends on its laboratories, high-level universities and longterm support from its local government.
CHEMISTRY & THE ENVIRONMENT
At the heart of the #1 region for chemical production in France (and the #2 region in all of Europe), Grenoble Alpes’ chemistry and cleantech sector boasts 15,000 jobs. From the conception of basic chemicals all the way up to the production of fine chemicals, the sector’s activities take place at 3 chemical platforms considered to be exemplary in terms of industrial ecology.

ENERGY
As the birthplace of hydroelectricity, Grenoble Alpes has historically been a central location for the development of energy technologies.
With over 17,000 jobs - 2,300 in public research alone – the sector is active in many key energy technologies: hydrogen fuel cells, smart grids, storage and batteries, energy efficiency in buildings, hydroelectricity, and more…
HEALTH
Located in the #2 French region in terms of the number of patents per inhabitant, and with an exceptional concentration of health technology companies, Grenoble Alpes stands out as a major hub for digital health technologies – a subdivision of the larger health industry that has seen strong growth in the past 15 years.
Home to the CHU Grenoble Alpes (Grenoble learning hospital), a leading innovator in the fields of neurosurgery and traumatology, and to myriad public and private laboratories, Grenoble Alpes has proven to be a particularly favorable environment for the development of innovative medical technologies.
MECHANICS AND METALLURGY
Cutting-edge technologies in the fields of microelectronics, computer science, biotechnology, renewable energy and the like, all depend on traditional industries like metallurgy and hydraulic mechanics – industries that have been historically present in Grenoble Alpes.

OUTDOOR SPORTS & THE MOUNTAIN
